ペットと被災したら?いち飼い主として できることを考えてみた! - saesa

What if your pet is affected by a disaster? I thought about what I could do as a pet owner!

Hello! It's Uri!
We look forward to your continued support of saesa in 2024.

Since the beginning of 2024, heart-wrenching disasters and accidents have occurred, making us feel uneasy.
Every time I watch the news and see the number of deaths from disasters and accidents and the number of disaster-related deaths rising, I feel painful and sad.
I sincerely hope that you can return to an environment where you can live in peace as soon as possible.

In the recent Noto Peninsula Earthquake, various incidents occurred, including difficulty in accepting pets at evacuation sites and pets becoming separated during the disaster.
In this blog, we will explain what you can do as a dog owner in case your dog is affected by a disaster! I thought about it.

I am not a disaster prevention specialist, so please read this as just my personal opinion.
Also, the measures you take will vary depending on your living environment and your dog's personality, age, breed, etc.
I hope this blog provides an opportunity for each owner to think about what to do when a disaster strikes with their pet dog, so that each owner can protect the life of their dog!

① Measures to prevent your dog from getting lost

Embed a macrochip and attach a license plate with an address or phone number, or attach an Apple Air Tag.

Each has its own advantages and disadvantages, but my child always wears a license tag on his collar to prevent him from getting lost.

② Pets are not allowed at the evacuation site or can be accepted with conditions.

Have a crater ready in case you need it or get used to using your own car.

In the case of my child, he loves being outside, so I don't think it would be a problem for him to be outside during the day.
Since I always sleep with someone in my family at night, I think someone in my family will sleep with me in the car.
There is a possibility that your car may be washed away by a tsunami, so it would be a good idea to prepare a crater in case it is necessary.

③To evacuate quickly

Prepare disaster prevention goods for your dog

I thought I needed to make an emergency bag for my dog as soon as possible.
・Medications (if any)
・Food, water ・Spare collar, leash (non-stretchable)
・Tableware, owner's contact information and emergency contact information, place to take care of the dog other than the owner, etc. I try to prepare food that my dog is used to eating and reduce the stress of having to change the food as much as possible in the event of a disaster.
There are also disaster prevention goods sets that can be purchased online, so it's a good idea to have a set ready!

In addition, you may be able to avoid trouble at the evacuation site by putting effort into socializing and training your dog on a daily basis.
It is also a good idea to check the guidelines issued by the Ministry of the Environment in case of a disaster!

I felt that it is important for each owner to prepare on a daily basis in case of a disaster, not only to protect the life of their beloved dog, but also to protect the health and livelihood of other disaster victims!

In addition, if there is anything that each owner can do to protect their dog and the people around them, I would be happy if you could let me know!
